Brekka has been growing so fast. I swear sometimes I can see a difference in her overnight. I try not to be sad about it. Instead I think about how fun it will be to get to know her. Writing that last sentence brought a smile to my face because I already know her very well. I've known her forever. Now I get to nurture her and watch my best friend develop into that wonderful girl who is the keeper of my heart.
Speaking of growing, Brekka has grown out of her newborn outfits. I happily went shopping for some 0-3 month clothes which turned out to be too big for her. We joke that she looks like an old man with her pants up to her armpits. Oh well, she looks cute anyway and I won't be surprised if the clothes fit her tomorrow. :)

My Little Sunshine
This is the sweet face I woke up to early this morning. She is just so precious. I keep thinking Brekka's indian name could be Sleeps With A Smile. :) She is always smiling (sometimes even giggling) in her sleep. Makes me want to keep the light on at night so I don't miss it! When she learns to use that smile, we're going to be in BIG trouble...

Tub Time
Chunky Monkey
Today we went to Brekka's two week checkup. Actually it's been three weeks since she was born... Of course all the staff ranted and raved about how beautiful she is, "Look at those bright eyes! Look at that HAIR." When Brekka was born she weighed 7 lb loz. At her 5 day checkup she weighed 6lb 10oz. Today she weighs a whopping 8lb 3oz! I'm makin' CREAM I tell ya! I'm gonna have to start selling it on ebay! Her head also grew. She jumped from the 19th to the 50th percentile in circumference. She's in the 33rd percentile in weight and the 63rd in height. The dr said she is PERFECT. This picture shows how tiny she still is in my arms. LOVE IT!

She's so BEAUTIFUL!
"Oh wow she's BEAUTIFUL!" This is what we hear every time someone new sees Brekka. They are in total shock at how small and perfect she is. I graciously reply "I KNOW!" People comment on her thick hair and eyelashes. Of course I smile with pride when people say she looks like me. Pictures DO NOT do her justice. Oh well... what can ya do right?
Too cute!
This is how we burp.

Joy ride..
Helloo!
Nanny McPhee
When Denie was here helping after the birth we jokingly called her Nanny McPhee. We were so grateful to have her and she completely spoiled me. She gave me back rubs, bought flowers, put me in the tub, filled my water bottle dozens of times, made dinners and breakfasts, cleaned the house, cared for the dogs, made trips to the store, folded laundry, helped me stand up when I was so sore, cared for the baby while we slept, bought me supplement drinks and jerky for my nightstand, petted my head while helping me through the baby blues and she was always by my side for company. She even offered to wash me in the shower! :) It was very hard to see her go... but I am so thankful to her. Sniff... Love you Denie!

Shhh baby sleeping
Brekka is such a good sleeper. She sleeps for three hours at a time, sometimes more when we don't wake her to eat. She doesn't fuss or cry unless she's hungry. It was a bit difficult until my milk came in since she has such a hearty appetite. Now I have enough to fill her and know just how long she needs to eat to be content. Lately she spends more time awake looking around and pulling faces. She will also fall asleep on her own (not while eating) and stay sleeping soundly. Some nights she's wide awake and we don't get much sleep, but she's not crying... just a little fussy. What a dream she is.
Going Home
We had a bit of a rough night in the hospital. We were extremely uncomfortable in the tiny stuffy room located right next to the VERY noisy nurses station. For some reason Brekka had a very stuffy nose and was having a hard time breathing. We tried putting salt saline, as well as medicated drops in her nose, but nothing seemed to help. To top it off the nurses were in and out, taking Brekka to do assessments on her, making her cry right when we had her settled down and breathing better. At three in the morning Darrell was packing our things, determined to leave. After reminding him that she still had tests to be done that I was NOT going to come back for, we decided to stay and tough it out. I held her in my arms for the rest of the night and we both drifted off to sleep a few times. By the time we finished everything on our discharge checklist it was about ten a.m. and boy were we glad to get gone. Thankfully Brekka's nose cleared up as soon as we got home. As you can tell from her pictures, she was happy to leave as well.
Proud Brothers
The boys were SO excited to come to the hospital and meet their new sister. Blakely even called Pokie at work from school and said "Aunt Pokie? Are you going to pick us up and take us to the hospital to see the new baby?" After a long wait they finally arrived. They took turns holding the baby and said how tiny and adorable she is. Before Brekka was born the boys would hug and kiss my belly goodnight. Now they get to kiss her for real. We all fell in love with her a long time ago...
